The Department of Biomedical Engineering

Department of Biomedical Engineering
The Department of Biomedical Engineering was established on March 17, 2008. Prof. Jean-François STOLTZ and Prof. Xiong WANG from University of Lorraine in France were the honor director and director, respectively. Prof. Jingping OUYANG and Prof. Yun CHEN were the vice directors. Therefore, the Department of Biomedical Engineering was branded the characteristics of internationalization, which was based on the long-term friendly cooperation and continued development in the field of Biomedical Engineering with the University of Lorraine in France since 1997.
Over the passed years, many teachers and students in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and University of Lorraine have frequent exchanges and communications in science research and education. Professor Xiong WANG came to Wuhan University and worked for 1 month each year. Prof Jean-François STOLTZ came to Wuhan University for communications for several times every year. The teachers and researchers in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and University of Lorraine cooperated to apply research projects from National Natural Science Foundation of China and from French or Europe. As co-workers, we have published a series papers and hold several international or bilateral scientific conferences. The Department of Biomedical Engineering was a member of the “China-France International Laboratory without Wall”. As a result, international cooperation and professional cross in the biomedical engineering field is the greatest characteristic and highlight of the Department of Biomedical Engineering.
Before the establishment of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, we were authorized to recruit graduate students, doctoral students and non full-time graduate students since 2005, 2007 and 2008, respectively. Presently, we are mainly responsible for the courses such as "Element Nutrition and Health", “Bioinformatics” and “Biomedical Engineering” for the students.
The Department of Biomedical Engineering mainly engaged in research of biomaterials, tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, and nano-medicine. We have undertaken more than 10 research projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Hubei Province Natural Science Foundation, Wuhan Science and Technology Bureau, and International Cooperation and Communication Programs. We have published more than 50 SCI-cited research papers, edited several books and applied 7 Chinese patents.
