When the founder of the Hubei medical university, Prof. Yubi Zhu, built the medical college in a very difficult period of anti-Japanese war in the temporary capital of Hubei province, Enshi in 1943, he paid a special attention to anatomy by inviting 2 high renowned anatomists, Luming Ye and Tongyu Jiang. After nearly 70 years, the department has become an important unit of training undergraduates and postgraduates in anatomy and some morphological technique, and performing scientific research on various levels of organ, cell and gene.
Faculty and technician
There are 16 faculties in the department, including 2 doctoral supervisors, 3 professors, 6 associate professors and 7 lecturers. There are 3 technicians in the department. Important Academic Subjects
Department of Anatomy was affirmed as one of the Important Academic Subjects in Hubei Province in 1997.
The Systematic anatomy was accredited as elite course by the educational bureau of Hubei provincial government in 2004.
The Regional anatomy was accredited as national brand course by the educational department of china.
Teaching programs
There are 4 courses for postgraduate students, including Neuroanatomy, cardiovascular anatomy, immunohistochemical technique and confocal microscopy, and sectional anatomy. There are 4 courses for undergraduates of clinical medicine and stomatology, including systematic anatomy, regional anatomy, oral anatomy and physiology, and human anatomy and physiology.
Systematic anatomy and regional anatomy were taught in English for foreign undergraduates of clinical medicine.
A new course called human body, established after the same course from The University of Chicago in US, integrated systermatic anatomy, regional anatomy with some clinical contents, such as surgical and radiological image, focusing on clinic-oriented teaching of human structures.
Teaching laboratories and equipments
There are 3 teaching laboratories equipped with ventilation and cooling system, multimedia teaching system and 40 dissection beds, occupying total area 530 square meter. Research laboratories and equipments
There are 3 research laboratories in the department, including the cardiovascular research lab, Neurobiology lab and reproductive research lab.
The scientific research equipments include confocal laser scanning microscopy, automated image analysis system, sterile air hood, freezing microtome, freezing centrifuge, Ultralow-temperature freezer, CO2 incubator.
Postgraduate students
Ph.D. and M.S. candidates from either cardiovascular anatomy or neuroanatomy can study in the department. Until now, 36 M.S. and 13 Ph.D. students graduated. At present, 4 Ph.D. and 6 M.S. candidates are studying here.
