Research Description

The actin cytoskeleton mediates numerous cellular processes including adhesion, motility and shape change. Dysfunctional actin cytoskeleton is associated with diseases such as metastatic cancers. As a key regulator of actin cytoskeleton, VASP is a member of the Ena/VASP protein family which is recruited downstream of plasma membrane receptors and plays crucial roles in the regulation of cell adhesion, migration and cell-cell interaction.

Vasodilator-stimulated phosphoprotein (VASP) has been implicated in the establishment of cancerous phenotypes. However, the role of VASP in solid tumors progression and metastasis remains poorly understood. Here, we demonstrated that VASP was upregulated by epidermal growth factor (EGF) and promoted the migration and invasion of gastric cancer cells. Then we explored the regulatory mechanisms responsible for high expression of VASP mainly in gastric cancer and breast cancer.
