On October 24, 2016, invited by Professor Wei Hou, Professor Li Wu has been visited the School of Basic Medical Sciences, Wuhan University. Professor Wu had obtained his doctoral degree at the Shanghai Medical College, Fudan University in 2000. Then he worked as a postdoctoral fellow from 2000 to 2003, and promoted to Research Fellow in 2003 at National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Frederick, Maryland. After post-doc training, he had been appointed to an Assistant Professor at Medical College of Wisconsin in 2005 and then moved to College of Veterinary Medicine, The Ohio State University (OSU) in 2009 as an Associate Professor with tenure. In 2014, he was promoted to full professor with tenure in the OSU. He has been devoting his significant time and effort to the training of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in the past 12 years. Given his contributions to graduate education, he has been selected for the 2015 Charles C. Capen Teaching Excellence Award for Graduate Education, College of Veterinary Medicine, OSU.

His research interest is to better understand the molecular mechanisms of HIV-1 replication and retroviral pathogenesis. He has studied HIV-1 interactions with host factors for 16 years and learned tremendously about HIV biology. In the past ten years, his laboratory has been focusing on the mechanisms of dendritic cell-mediated HIV-1 transmission and HIV-1 restriction in primary myeloid cells. At 10:00 am, he was given an academic report on “The Mechanisms of SAMHD1-mediated HIV-1 restriction” at the international room and had discussed with faculties and students in his research field. Professor Wu’s visiting will provide a chance for scientific research cooperation in the future with faculties in WHU.
