8th International Symposium China-Europe Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine and 3rd Meeting of China-France CNRS GDRI CeSMeR were successfully held in WHU

On June 19-21st, 2018, 8th International Symposium China-Europe Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine and 3rd Meeting of China-France CNRS GDRI CeSMeR were successfully held in Wuhan University School of Medicine. This symposium was hosted by Wuhan University, Lorraine University, National Center for Scientific Research of France, and Wuhan-Nancy Sino-French Research Laboratory without-Wall.


In the afternoon of June 19th, Dr. Philippe Maurin, the commissioner for Science and Technology from French consulate general in Wuhan and 13 French scholars, Prof. Xiaohua He, Prof. Yun Chen, Prof. Hui Wang, Prof. Pu Chen from School of Basic Medical Sciences, Prof. Liaobin Chen from Zhongnan Hospital, Prof. Zongjin Li from Nankai University, etc. attended the 3rd Meeting of China-France CNRS GDRI CeSMeR round table meeting. At the meeting, each team introduced their recent scientific progress and the cooperation results achieved by both sides. They also made positive suggestions for the follow-up cooperation and discussed plans to apply for international cooperation grants.


On June 20th and 21st, 8th International Symposium China-Europe Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine was held in the lecture hall of the School of Medicine. The conference was co-chaired by Jean-francois Stoltz, academician of Lorraine University, Prof. Yun Chen, vice dean of School of Basic Medical Sciences of Wuhan University and Dr. Yinping Li. The vice Dean Dr. Xiangting Yu from School of Medicine gave the welcome speech. French consul Olivier Guyonvarch, director of the French National Scientific Research Center in Beijing office Antoine Mynard, Jean Francois Stoltz and Yun Chen, respectively, gave speeches in the opening ceremony.

Since Wuhan University and Lorraine University have cooperated for more than 20 years, the leaders from both sides expressed their hopes and suggestions. Scholars from Nancy, Strasbourg, Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Guangzhou and Wuhan, totally more than 100 people attended the opening ceremony.


In the following two days of academic reports, some famous scholars were invited to give talks, including Prof. Zhongchao Han, French foreign academician of medical sciences; Prof. Yilin Cao, from Shanghai Jiaotong University; Prof. Hong Yu from Zhejiang University; Prof. Xiaodong Cao, from South China University of Technology. Prof. Xiaohua He, Prof. Hui Wang, Prof. Liaobin Chen, Prof. Yun Chen and Prof. Xingzhong Zhao’s groups from our school also gave talks. There were total 34 talks in the symposium covering 5 topics: stem cells and regenerative medicine & therapy, cell immunotherapy, stem cells in the basic research, biomaterials and tissue engineering, cell signal transduction and osteoarthritis. Among them, Prof. Pu Chen from School of Basic Medical Sciences, Prof. Fuling Zhou from Zhongnan hospital, Prof. Yan Zhou, Prof. Wei Jiang, and Prof. Haojian Zhang from Medical Research Institute, and associated professor Yifeng Lei from the Institute of Technological Sciences, showed themselves as young scholars in Wuhan University in the field. The young teachers and students actively discussed and had lots of take home messages.


The closing ceremony of the conference was presided by Prof. Jacques Magdalou from Lorraine University and associated professor Yinping Li from School of Basic Medical Sciences. The medical cooperation between Wuhan University and France began in 1997, and a series of academic conferences on bilateral or multilateral about the stem cell and regenerative medicine were held. Among them, meetings were held in Wuhan University in 2005, 2009, 2010 and 2011. International conferences promote teaching, scientific and clinical research in our school and provide new cooperation chances for our school with Lorraine University, University of Strasbourg, and other well-known colleges and universities.
