Hubei Medical College was founded in May 1943, and the department of pathological anatomy in Hubei Medical College was founded by professor Wang Dianxi and professor Wu Anshun in the same year. Professsor Wang Dianxi was the Director of Academic Affairs in Hubei Medical College at the beginning of the new department. In the early 1950s in addition to taking on teaching task, the department of pathology also undertook clinical pathological examination in The First Affiliated Hospital and The Second Affiliated Hospital of Hubei Medical College, Wuhan Third Hospital and Wuhan seventh Hospital in the long term. The department undertook autopsy in Wuchang district, and regularly held clinical pathological conferences. Four universities merged into a new Wuhan university in August 2000, and so the department of pathology, the department of pathophysiology and the department of forensic medicine in former Basic Medical College merged into the department of pathology and pathophysiology. Our department was renamed the teaching and research section of pathology in the department of pathology and pathophysiology of Wuhan University School of Basic Medical sciences.
The number of staff in our teaching and research section is 11 at present. The number of teachers is 8, and the number of technicians is 3. The number of associate professors is 4, and the number of lecturer is 4. The number of senior technicians is 2, and The number of intermediate technician is 1. All teachers have master degree or above, and six of them have doctor degree. The number of teachers over age 45 is 2, and the number between 35 and 45 is 6. Since the establishment of teaching and research section, after several generations of efforts, teaching and research made considerable progress.
Teaching achievements:
1. Since pathology became the first batch of master enrollment major in 1978, our department trained more than 100 master degree candidates.
2. In 2010, Professor Xue Jingling participated in young teacher competition in School of Basic medical sciences and won the second prize.
3. In 2012, Direcor Diao Luming won the gardener award in School of Basic medical sciences.
